Much of what was in the book sss already outdated. It literally said "outdated" in the textbook. And then there was the joy of finding out the hard way when my projects weren't going well that several important lines of code wouldn't work due to tech upgrades since the publishing date. Now I know that technology is improving g at a faster rate than a lot of textbooks, but when you have literally full pages of codes that say"outdated", I get a little snappy about it--why put that in there then? Leave it out instead of showing us the wrong way and then wait until the next leg to tell us "just kidding--hat will never work". Often the step by step directions left out key points. It's too bad too because the layout of the chapters was good and the projects that are worked on with the completion of each chapter and that build on the previous work is a great learning model. It's just unfortunate that the book can't possibly stay current with the technology. If they had a live version of it that could be updated when required, that would be fabulous.
While it was good in some areas, I found it lacking in others. I often had to seek out other online resources in order to truly understand the material and learn how to apply it to something other than the case studies. It is easy to read and follow, but I am not sure that I am really learning everything that I will need to know in the future.
This textbook is easy to understand, and laid out in a logical manner. It is packed with lots of practice problems with step-by-step instructions to allow the student to code their very own web pages. The answers to review questions found at the end of each chapter reinforce learning and help the student know if they are grasping the concepts. Although I am new to coding, this information seems up-to-date and current. A friend who is an experienced programmer confirms that information is thorough and correct. I would recommend this book for the beginner-level programmer who wants to really dive into HTML and CSS.
It is not that different from HTML 4.1 w/CSS. I was expecting something new.
The book has a lot of pictures/examples which is helpful for learners. It brings about a strong foundation and lots of insight to a variety of different topics. The physical structure of the book is poor though. It is vary large and flimsy (-1 star). The contents of the book are spot on though!
Okay book. Not too good with explaining things. Better to just use the w3 schools website to learn.
Well, it's a textbook ... gotta have it. Though for the price you'd think they could check for errors which are many throughout the book!
Great text for my HTML class at Northwestern. It is well-written, extensive and has useful example exercises.
